USE YOUR CAC WITH A CHROMEBOOK

Chrome OS logo

Utilizing your CAC on a Chromebook "may" work if you follow these instructions (it worked on my Chromebook)

NOTE:  It works for accessing most CAC enabled websites.  I cannot find Adobe Reader to be able to digitally sign forms

Please let me know of your success, or what you did differently.

Download these 4 DoD Root certificate files to your computer

AllCerts.p7b,

RootCert2.p7b,

To install these certificates in Chrome, select the 3 dots (top right side of web browser), then Settings

Options, Settings

 .

.

Click Show advanced settings...

Advanced Settings

Click the Manage certificates.. (button)

 Click the Authorities (tab)

Select file

Check all three boxes under the Edit trust settings

To verify they all installed.  Go into the Authorities (tab), scroll down to U.S. Government, DOD CA-31 through DOD ID SW CA-48 should all be listed

Did certs install?

Now that all of the certificates are installed, you need to install either CSSI or CACkey.  CSSI requires two separate apps be installed.

NOTE:  CSSI has worked more consistently, than CACkey

Smart Card Connector & CSSI Smart Card Middleware

Download from this webstore link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/smart%20card%20connector listed under Apps

Select + ADD TO CHROME on each app

CSSI

Select the Add app (button)

Add App

When going to CAC enabled sites, it is a little slow

I used an SCR-3310 v2 CAC reader

You will have to Allow the app

CACkey is also available by going to this webstore link:  https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cackey/lpimdiknnpijeigckalekdccibdmeojg

Select the + ADD TO CHROME (button)

CACkey

Select the Add app (button)

Add App

When you want to use it, select LAUNCH APP

NOTE: If you are unable to access your DoD Enterprise Email, try this...

I was informed by a Soldier that he had to use Incognito mode to access his DoD Enterprise Email account.  If you want to try this, Click <shift> <ctrl> <n> to bring it up.
