USE YOUR CAC ON A CHROMEBOOK

Chrome OS logo

Utilizing your CAC on a Chromebook "may" work if you follow these instructions (it has worked on multiple Chromebooks)

You should be able to access most CAC enabled websites.  However, I am unable to find Adobe Reader to be able to digitally sign forms

Please let me know of your success, or what you did differently.

Download these 5 DoD certificate files to your computer

AllCerts.p7b,

DOD EMAIL CA-31 through DOD EMAIL CA-34,

DOD EMAIL CA-39 through DOD EMAIL CA-44,

DOD EMAIL CA-49 through DOD EMAIL CA-52,

DOD ID CA-33 through DOD ID CA-34,

DoD Root CA 2 through DoD Root CA 5, and

DOD ID SW CA-53 through DOD ID SW CA-58

Did certs install?

Now all of the DoD certificates are installed, you now need to install CSSI Smart Card Middleware or CACKey (NOT both).  CSSI requires two separate apps be installed.

NOTE:  CSSI Smart Card Middleware has worked more consistently (in my tests) than CACKey

Smart Card Connector & CSSI Smart Card Middleware

Download from this webstore link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/smart%20card%20connector listed under Apps

Select + ADD TO CHROME on each app

CSSI

Click the Add app (button)

Add App

When going to CAC enabled sites, it is a little slow

I used an SCR-3310 v2 CAC reader

You have to Allow the app

NOTE: CACKey is another program you can use.  DO NOT install both CSSI and CACkey

CACKey is also available by going to this webstore link:  https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cackey/lpimdiknnpijeigckalekdccibdmeojg

Select the + ADD TO CHROME (button)

CACkey

Click the Add app (button)

Add App

When you want to use it, select LAUNCH APP

NOTE: If you are unable to access your DoD Enterprise Email, try this...

I have been informed by a couple of Soldiers that they had to use Incognito mode to access their DoD Enterprise Email account.  If you want to try this, Click <shift> <ctrl> <n> to bring it up.
