WINDOWS 7 & 8 USERS: If your CAC looks like the 2 below: "Gemalto TOP DL GX4 144" or "Oberthur ID One 128 v5.5 Dual", you "may" be able to use your CAC without having to install ActivClient.
1. If you only want to use your CAC to logon to CAC enabled sites (and not complete or digitally sign forms with Lotus Forms and ApproveIt), you may want to consider using LPS (Lightweight Portable Security)

2. Download and use an Open-Source program called CACKey on your Windows computer. You can download the 32 bit version or the 64 bit version. This program also works with Firefox. NOTE: I have NOT personally tested this option in Windows, it was sent to me as an alternative to ActivClient. So, if you want to try it, please let me know how it worked for you.

4. Download ActivClient 6.1 (32bit) or (64bit) from SOUTHCOM. Installation instructions You will need to update this software to use it with Vista, Windows 7, or your new CAC
5. Download ActivClient 6.2 (32bit) or (64bit) from Defense Logistics Agency Remote Access System You will need to update this software to use it with Vista, Windows 7, or your new CAC
6. Download CACkey 0.6.8 (32bit) or (64 bit) from Forge.mil [CAC Required] or 0.6.8 (32bit) or (64bit) from MilitaryCAC
7. Download and use an Open-Source program like Coolkey (Select the Download link next to: Smart Card Manager 1.0.1-6-1 Installer for Windows). This program also works with Firefox
You may purchase ActivClient 6.2 (Works with Windows 7, Vista, & XP, NOT Windows 8)
If you are unsure whether you have a 32 or 64 bit version of Windows, here is how to find out:
Windows 7, 8, & Vista, Right click Computer, select Properties. Under System, System type you will see 32 or 64-bit. (see example below)XP, Right click My Computer, select Properties. If it doesn't say 64 bit, you have a 32 bit Operating System.
